Anthony J. Callahan Sr. joined the Town of Ashland Police Department in September of 1999.
While a member of the Ashland Police Department he has been assigned to the Uniformed Patrol
Division, Traffic Safety Unit, and also served as a General Investigator. In July of 2007 he was
appointed as an Acting Sergeant with the department, his supervisory responsibilities included the
Investigations section as well as the Support Services Division. This assignment included the added
responsibility of managing the Departments Records Room as well as the Property and Evidence Room.
In July of 2008 he was appointed to the rank of Captain and is currently responsible for coordinating
Patrol Operations and Special Operations. Captain Callahan is a graduate of the Professional Executive
Leadership School (PELS) at the University of Richmond. He has also completed course work at the New
Deputy Chiefs Training School, and was a proud member of the United States Armed Forces as a Military
Policeman with the U.S. Army.

Troy Aronhalt has been employed by the Ashland Police Department for 10 years. He graduated from Benedictine High School in 1993.
After high school, he attended Virginia Wesleyan University for one year, then transferred to Virginia Commonwealth
University. Before joining the Ashland Police Department, Troy worked for the Alcohol and Beverage Control for one year as a security officer. While
at the Ashland Police Department Troy has graduated from the FBI National Academy with 12 credits toward
his graduate degree, with straight A's. Troy is a certified instructor, accident reconstructionist, and field training officer. Troy is married and has two children.
James F. Shelhorse Jr. joined the Town of Ashland Police Department in December of 2000.
Prior to joining the department he served as an auxiliary police officer with the Town of Bowling Green
Police Department, and a special police officer and Area Manager at Kings Dominion. After being promoted
to the rank of Corporal in 2002 he worked as a shift supervisor and as was assigned the additional duty of
being the departments Public Information Officer in charge of handling media relations. In July of 2007 he
was appointed as an Acting Sergeant in charge of Day Shift Patrol, this assignment included the
responsibilities of representing the department on a college campus safety task force. He also coordinates
the department’s involvement in local special events and emergency operations. In July of 2008 he was
appointed to the rank of Lieutenant and is currently responsible for Patrol Division operations.
Cheryl has served the department as Administrative Assistant since 2005. Along with her administrative
duties Cheryl became the Accreditation Manager for the department for the CALEA process in July, 2008.
Prior to joining the agency she worked for the Richmond Police Department for four years. She is a graduate
of Christopher Newport University in Newport News, VA with a BA in History.
Cheryl and her family have lived in Ashland for 10 years.
