The Ashland Police Department's Bike Team consists of four members: one supervisor and three patrol officers. Each officer assigned to the bike team has been through extensive bike training at the Rappahannock Regional Criminal Justice Academy. The Bike Team is a great asset to the department as they are fully equipped to handle all calls for service as well as provide special patrol functions. The bike team adds a very personable approach to police work and allows for the officers to interact more with the community.

The bike team has conducted several bike safety presentations to local schools and daycares.

During these presentations, bike officers educate children about the importance of bike safety which includes:

• Proper helmet usage
  
• Obeying traffic laws - riding safely on the roadway
  
• The importance of physical fitness
